Comelec Sets Friday Deadline for 27 Government Contractors

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced on Thursday, November 20, 2025, that it expects all 27 government contractors accused of providing campaign donations during the May 2022 elections to submit their explanations by Friday, November 21.

In an interview, Comelec Chairman George Garcia confirmed that Friday marks the final deadline for these contractors to respond to the show cause orders (SCOs) issued by the election body. "We expect that by the 21st of November, they will flock here and we will accept their explanations," Garcia stated.

Candidates to Receive Notices Next Week

Regarding the candidates who received these campaign donations, Chairman Garcia revealed that Comelec expects to issue show cause orders to them next week. "By next week, we will be able to issue the show cause orders to the candidates, who were given campaign donations by the 27 government contractors," Garcia explained.

Previous disclosures indicated that a total of 21 candidates received campaign donations from the 27 government contractors during the 2022 elections. The breakdown includes:

  • Six senatorial candidates
  • Five party-list organizations
  • Four congressional candidates
  • Three gubernatorial candidates
  • Two vice gubernatorial candidates
  • One councilor candidate
