The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has pledged to offer guidance to legislators as they deliberate on the fate of the November 2026 Barangay and Municipal Council Elections (BSKE). Comelec Chairman Outlines Support Role
During a phone interview, Comelec Chairman George Garcia clarified the commission's position, stating that providing factual data is the most effective way to assist policymakers. "We will make available facts and figures. We can just shepherd our policy makers hoping to result in the right decision to ensure that public interest is catered," Garcia explained. He stressed that this approach aims to balance electoral integrity with broader societal needs.
Preparations Continue Unabated
Despite ongoing discussions about delaying the polls, Garcia confirmed that Comelec will proceed with its preparations for the village and youth elections. "We have our timelines, and we intend to strictly follow the same. Otherwise, we will be remiss of our duty," he asserted.
