An undercover police officer was sprayed with paint on the face by a protester during an Independence Day rally in Manila on Friday, according to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).
Incident Details
NCRPO spokesperson Major Hazel Asilo stated that the officer caught an individual spray-painting and vandalizing the center island along Kalaw Avenue. When the officer intervened, the protester sprayed paint at him.
The officer attempted to arrest the suspect, but the latter resisted, escaped, and even removed his clothes to avoid identification. Authorities are still trying to identify the protester.
Officer's Condition
Asilo noted that aside from paint on the officer's head, arms, and uniform, he is in good condition.
Despite the incident, the NCRPO emphasized that no other untoward incidents have been recorded during this year's Independence Day celebration.
