In a significant military leadership reshuffle, the Philippine Army has appointed a key architect of the Marawi liberation to spearhead security operations in Eastern Mindanao.
New Commander for Agila Division
Major General Aleto A. Lagunday officially assumed command of the 10th Infantry Division (10th ID) during a formal change of command ceremony at Camp General Manuel T. Yan Sr. in Mawab, Davao de Oro. The seasoned military strategist takes over from Major General Allan D. Hambala, who led the division for nearly two years.
The ceremony, presided over by Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Roy M. Galido, marks a strategic deployment of one of the military's most experienced counter-insurgency experts to the volatile region.
From Marawi Battlefields to Davao Command
General Lagunday brings formidable credentials to his new post, having served as the Assistant Division Commander of the 1st Infantry Division during the critical Marawi siege. His tactical expertise was instrumental in planning and executing operations that ultimately liberated Marawi City from terrorist control.
Before this appointment, Lagunday demonstrated his leadership capabilities as the commander of the 1002nd Infantry Brigade, where he oversaw counter-insurgency operations across Davao Region.
A Legacy of Service and Security
In his acceptance speech, the new 10th ID commander emphasized his commitment to continuing the division's legacy of service. "We will sustain the gains and best practices of the Agila Division," Lagunday declared, acknowledging the foundation laid by his predecessor.
General Galido praised both outgoing and incoming commanders, highlighting the importance of strong leadership in maintaining peace and security in Mindanao. "The change in leadership signifies the Philippine Army's continuous pursuit of excellence and dedication to serving the people," Galido stated during the ceremony.
Strengthening Eastern Mindanao Defense
The 10th Infantry Division, known as the Agila Division, holds crucial responsibility for security operations across Davao Region, parts of Soccsksargen, and surrounding areas. With Lagunday's extensive experience in urban warfare and counter-terrorism, his appointment signals the military's intensified focus on stabilizing Eastern Mindanao.
This leadership transition comes at a pivotal moment as the Philippine Army continues its campaign against insurgent groups while supporting development initiatives across the region.
