Philippines files diplomatic protest vs China over platform

The Philippines has filed a diplomatic protest against China over a floating platform discovered in Bajo de Masinloc in the West Philippine Sea. The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) stated that it merely did what was necessary by filing the protest. The DFA did not disclose further details, citing confidentiality.

Coast Guard confirms discovery

Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea, Rear Admiral Jay Tarriela, said the floating platform was first detected through satellite imagery and maritime domain awareness operations conducted in May. He added that the platform has a deck area of approximately 30 square meters and an estimated length of five to seven meters.

Chinese presence observed

Several Chinese individuals were reportedly seen on the platform on May 30. By May 31, the platform had moved deeper into Bajo de Masinloc, assisted by a Chinese vessel.
