PIAS to Head Investigation into Alleged Police Assault on Barangay Councilor in Sevilla, Bohol
The Provincial Internal Affairs Service (PIAS) is set to lead an investigation into the alleged assault of a barangay councilor by four police officers in the town of Sevilla, Bohol. This incident occurred concurrently with police operations targeting the complainant, Eric Gumanoy.
Formal Complaint Filed Amidst Ongoing Inquiry
In an exclusive interview with Star FM Cebu, Police Major Rey Olar disclosed that Gumanoy visited the office on Friday, February 13, to file a formal complaint. However, the complaint has not yet been officially docketed as authorities await the submission of complete documentation.
While awaiting these documents to initiate formal hearings, the Bohol Provincial Police Office (BPPO) has already taken preliminary measures. These include an initial review of available CCTV footage to ensure an evidence-based investigation.
Officers Remain on Duty Pending Investigation
Olar further revealed that the four police officers named in the complaint have not been administratively relieved and continue to hold their positions. He emphasized that if found guilty, the officers could face suspension, demotion, or dismissal, depending on the severity of the case.
He assured the public that the investigation will be conducted fairly and in accordance with due process, upholding the integrity of the legal proceedings.
Call for Public Vigilance and Reporting
Olar also urged the public to report any instances of police abuse to the Provincial Investigation and Detective Management Unit. This initiative aims to ensure that all victims receive thorough investigations and justice, fostering accountability within law enforcement.
