Four couples formally exchanged vows in a mass wedding organized by Barangay Pitogo in Consolacion, Cebu, marking the first time this initiative was held in the barangay.
The event provided an opportunity for couples to receive the Sacrament of Marriage without incurring significant expenses.
The ceremony, held at San Narciso Parish on Thursday, gathered the newlyweds, their families, friends, barangay officials, and municipal leaders. The celebration followed the theme, “Unity in Love Under God’s Blessing.” The event was led by Barangay Captain Allen Claire Parado-Madjos, who described the mass wedding as part of the barangay’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the foundation of families and help couples formalize their union before God and the law.
According to Madjos, the project holds great significance as it is the first time such an event was organized in Barangay Pitogo and coincidentally fell on her birthday.
She said the idea came to her during visits to the barangay’s puroks and sitios, where she noticed that many couples had been living together for several years but had not yet married.
Madjos stated that she wanted to create an opportunity for these couples to receive the Sacrament of Marriage and experience the joy of formally becoming husband and wife.
“I have always wanted to make this project happen because during my visits to different communities, I saw many couples who were living together but had not yet been married. I wanted them to receive the Sacrament of Marriage and experience the blessing that comes with it,” she said.
The captain added that helping residents build stronger families is one of her priorities as a local leader. She said marriage plays an important role in creating stable homes and nurturing responsible communities.
