The Pasay City local government has removed the tents and tarpaulins of supporters of the Duterte family and the Cayetano bloc from the vicinity of the Senate. According to the Pasay City local government, this was their “final warning” to protesters who repeatedly return and set up camp in the area.
Official Statement
“Our problem is they keep coming back. When we remove their things, of course there will be chaos. They won't just give in,” a local government official said in a media interview. He added, “So what will happen now is that this is their last warning to remove all tents and scattered belongings.”
Duration of Protest
The supporters had been camping in the area for nearly a month, following earlier events related to Senate issues and attempted arrests of certain personalities. The local government noted that the structures were affecting traffic flow, particularly on the northbound lane of Diokno Boulevard.
Previous Operations
It can be recalled that the local government had conducted clearing operations in previous weeks, but protesters continued to return to the Senate vicinity. Authorities warned that equipment of those who attempt to set up tents and tarpaulins again may be confiscated.
