The Commission on Appointments (CA) confirmed on Wednesday the promotions of five high-ranking officials of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), more than two weeks after the process was stalled due to a lack of senator members in the commission.
During the hearing, the CA approved the appointments of Lieutenant General Edmundo G. Peralta, Vice Admiral Allan M. Javier, Major General Isagani O. Criste, Brigadier General Niceforo M. Diaz Jr., and Brigadier General Rosemawatte A. Remo.
The confirmation of these officials was delayed on June 1 after the required number of senators to serve as representatives in the Commission on Appointments could not be formed.
Earlier, in a special session of the Senate under the new leadership of Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian, senators were elected to represent the chamber in the CA, allowing pending confirmations to proceed.
The new members of the Commission on Appointments from the Senate include Senate President Pro Tempore Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, Majority Leader Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri, and Senators Joel Villanueva, Risa Hontiveros, Raffy Tulfo, and JV Ejercito from the majority bloc. Also included in the commission are senators from the minority bloc: Loren Legarda, Rodante Marcoleta, Imee Marcos, Bong Go, Jinggoy Estrada, and Mark Villar.
In addition to the promotions of the five AFP generals, the CA also approved three nominations and 83 ad interim appointments of officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) who are part of the Philippine Foreign Service.
