Cebu City Police Reports Peaceful First Day of Classes in Public Schools
Cebu Police: First Day of Classes Peaceful

The Cebu City Police have described the first day of classes in public schools on Monday, June 8, 2026, as peaceful and orderly. Police Lieutenant Colonel Franco Rodulf Oriol, deputy city director for administration of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), stated that they monitored 57 public schools and recorded no incidents. No complaints were received from students.

"Based on our assessment, so far the opening of classes went well, peaceful, and orderly. We hope that from today until the opening of other private schools, our schools will remain peaceful and orderly," Oriol said.

Since dawn, the CCPO had already deployed personnel outside schools. In addition to police officers assigned to help children cross the streets, force multipliers such as barangay tanods and the Cebu City Transportation Office also assisted to prevent traffic disruptions on major roads.

The police also monitored night high schools to ensure that students returning home in the evening are not victimized by crime. The CCPO urged motorists, now that classes have started, to be cautious in driving and to follow all traffic rules, especially near schools, to avoid accidents.

The CCPO also called on parents to avoid sending their children to school with expensive gadgets such as cellphones or jewelry to prevent them from becoming targets of thieves.

Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival, during his visit to the CCPO, praised the police for the peaceful and orderly start of classes. He urged the police to monitor all 57 schools in the city for the security of students.

"We know that there is no problem with peace and order in the city, so all schools have police officers inside the school to help maintain order at the start of classes," Archival said.
