The Philippine National Police (PNP) has confirmed that former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel Bonoan is no longer in their custody. PCol. Allen Rae Co, officer-in-charge of the PNP Public Information Office, stated that on the evening of Tuesday, June 2, Bonoan was transferred to a private hospital. This move was based on the recommendation of a doctor from the PNP General Hospital due to the facility's inadequate resources.
Security Measures in Place
Police officials assured that the former secretary's location is under tight security, with only his lawyers and immediate family members allowed to visit. Bonoan was rushed to the PNP General Hospital hours after a warrant of arrest was issued against him by the Sandiganbayan for plunder, as his blood pressure spiked. He has filed an appeal with the anti-graft court requesting hospital arrest due to his medical condition.
Background of the Case
The plunder case stems from alleged irregularities during Bonoan's tenure at the DPWH. The Sandiganbayan issued the arrest warrant after finding probable cause. Bonoan's legal team is expected to continue pursuing his appeal while he remains under medical care at the private facility.
