Gesmundo Urges Filipinos to Reflect on Independence Day

Supreme Court Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo urged the public to reflect on the true meaning of celebrating Independence Day. The Chief Justice invited everyone to commemorate the day by remembering the truths that fueled the Philippine Revolution and the ongoing struggle for independence.

True Freedom and Justice

Chief Justice Gesmundo emphasized that a truly free nation is just, and true justice is free. Although a century has passed since independence was first celebrated, he believes that the fight for freedom continues through various means.

Call to Action Against Corruption

He also called on citizens to unite in promoting freedom not only from colonizers but also from corruption, selfishness, and negligence. It is the duty of every Filipino to respond to this call, as rights and freedoms come with responsibilities.

Chief Justice Gesmundo, as guest of honor along with the mayor of Angeles City, Pampanga, local government officials, and others, joined the commemoration of the 128th Independence Day at the National Museum of Social History, formerly known as the Pamintuan Mansion. It was at this location where former President Emilio Aguinaldo celebrated the first anniversary of the occasion.

The Chief Justice also left a message as he prepares to retire from his position this year.
