President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has called on senators to return to their duties after two consecutive Senate sessions were canceled. According to President Marcos, many pending bills require immediate action by the Senate. Several laws remain pending following the UPLIFT meeting to address the ongoing crisis in the country.
President Marcos on Session Cancellations
President Marcos emphasized that the inclusion of Senator Jinggoy Estrada in prison detention is not a sufficient reason to cancel sessions. He also stressed that there are established rules for canceling sessions, including notifying the other chamber of Congress three days in advance.
Impact on Legislative Work
Meanwhile, President Marcos maintained that the ongoing conflicts in the Senate are affecting the continuity of important legislative work, even as other branches of government continue to fulfill their duties. According to the President, the current situation in the Senate clearly shows the existing confusion within the institution, which he said damages the credibility and leadership of the chamber.
He emphasized the importance of the Senate continuing its work to address pending bills and other matters requiring immediate action.
