The Philippine National Police (PNP) clarified that it has not received any validated intelligence regarding alleged security threats to the upcoming Independence Day celebrations on June 12. PNP public information officer-in-charge Colonel Allen Rae Co stated that the national police will verify the report and assured that they are ready to provide updates and take appropriate action once it is confirmed.
PNP Assures Full Deployment
The official also assured that PNP forces are prepared, vigilant, and fully deployed to ensure public safety on Independence Day. Regular police deployments will be conducted on that day. Additionally, contingency plans are in place to address any incidents, similar to the protest actions on September 21 of the previous year which turned violent.
Public Advisory
In connection with this, the PNP advised the public to avoid spreading false information and to verify news they receive.
Security Meeting for SONA
Meanwhile, Colonel Co confirmed that PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla held a meeting. The discussion covered security preparations for the upcoming State of the Nation Address (SONA) of the President in July, security provision for the Senate, and the DILG's Safer Cities initiative.
