House Deputy Speaker Paolo Ortega emphasized that impeached Vice President Sara Duterte has an obligation to the public to attend her upcoming impeachment trial and face the accusations against her. According to Ortega, if Duterte plans to run for higher office, such as the presidency, higher standards are expected of her, so she should personally explain herself to the public.
Ortega Predicts Absence as Part of Strategy
However, Ortega believes the Vice President will not attend. He stated that this is part of Duterte's strategy, similar to her absence in previous House hearings. Despite this, Ortega assured that prosecutors are prepared for any scenario, including a possible boycott or prolonging of the defense process.
Public Opinion Supports Trial
Ortega added that according to a recent survey, 8 out of 10 Filipinos want the hearing to begin to get answers. The impeachment trial in the Senate is expected to start on July 6 to present evidence and finally resolve the issue.
