New Trillion Peso March Set for June 28 by Church Groups

Leaders of the Catholic Church, other religious groups, and civil society organizations are organizing a new large-scale "Trillion Peso March" on June 28, following previous protests calling for accountability amid corruption scandals in the country.

White Ribbon Movement March

Bishop Colin Bagaforo, lead convenor of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) Inter-Religious Leaders' Council for National Transformation and bishop of Kidapawan, said the rally will be called the "White Ribbon Movement March." The activity will take place at the People Power Monument, which he described as a faith-based, faith-generated action resulting from reflection, prayer, listening, and shared responsibility with God. The march will start at noon towards the monument.

Demands for Accountability

The rally aims to remind the government that Filipinos deserve a better future, which can only be achieved through honest politics that serves the people's interests, promotes human dignity, and is guided by justice rather than greed. The bishop emphasized that those involved in corruption should be held accountable and imprisoned. The group will also call for the implementation of a genuine law against political dynasties.

Call for Unity

Bishop Bagaforo invited all religious groups, civil society, non-government organizations, educational associations, as well as farmers, fishermen, and workers to join the rally. He called for collective prayer so that God hears the voice of the people, the leadership system changes, and the corrupt listen to the voice of truth.
