Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian has disclosed that up to 40 priority bills of the Marcos administration and the 20th Congress remain pending in the Senate. These measures are part of the 53 Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) bills, which are jointly prioritized by the executive and legislative branches.
Bills Unaddressed Amid Controversies
According to Gatchalian, some of these bills were among those not taken up during the latter part of the first regular session of the 20th Congress due to controversies faced by the upper chamber. Many of the pending measures are related to the energy, economy, and education sectors.
Senate to Prioritize LEDAC Bills Despite Impeachment Duties
Gatchalian assured that these legislative measures will not be set aside even as the Senate convenes as an impeachment court. He stated that if necessary, he will call an all-senator caucus to discuss the bills, even in the midst of the trial. The Senate President also plans to invite subject-matter experts and resource persons to speak on the measures, so that senators can better understand their importance.
