The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Aurora recently held a two-day training session focused on the testing, sealing, and calibration of fuel dispensing pumps. The initiative aims to bolster local enforcement of consumer protection standards and ensure accuracy in fuel measurements at gasoline stations.
Training Details and Participants
The event took place on April 21–22, 2026, at the Capitol Training Hall in Baler, Aurora. It was organized by the DTI Aurora Consumer Protection Division in collaboration with the Provincial Government of Aurora. A total of 32 participants from various local government units (LGUs) attended, including personnel from Municipal Treasury Offices, Business Permits and Licensing Offices (BPLOs), Market Offices, and members of Local Price Coordinating Councils (LPCCs).
Regulatory Framework
The training sessions were aligned with Republic Act No. 7394, also known as the Consumer Act of the Philippines, and existing Philippine National Standards (PNS). The focus was on regulatory compliance in weights and measures, emphasizing the importance of accurate fuel dispensing to protect consumers from deceptive practices.
Expert Instruction and Hands-On Activities
Engr. Norlito Tiglao from the DTI Regional Office III served as the resource speaker. He delivered technical discussions and conducted hands-on demonstrations on the proper procedures for testing and sealing fuel dispensing pumps. Participants also visited two gasoline stations in Baler to observe and apply standard inspection and calibration practices in real-world settings.
In addition to fuel pump calibration, the training covered the calibration of weighing scales, inspection techniques, and methods for identifying violations. Participants were oriented on enforcement measures to ensure compliance and uphold fair trade practices.
Official Statements
DTI Aurora emphasized that the initiative equips LGU personnel with updated technical skills necessary for monitoring business establishments and preventing deceptive practices. DTI Provincial Director Aldrin Veneracion stated, “This training is a long-overdue need of the LGUs and is timely in capacitating LPCCs to respond effectively to current challenges.” He noted that the program also serves as a refresher for previous participants and a learning opportunity for new ones.
DTI Aurora vowed to continue collaborating with LGUs and partner agencies to protect consumers and ensure fair trade in the region.
