Filipino tennis star Alex Eala once again proved her skill by defeating World No. 2 Elena Rybakina, 7-5, 6-4, at the Berlin Open on Friday (Philippine time).

Match Highlights

In the WTA 500 tournament match, Eala struggled early in the first set, falling behind 1-4 against Rybakina, known for her powerful serves. However, the 21-year-old Filipina did not back down and rallied with consecutive game wins to take the first set, 7-5.

In the second set, Eala took an early lead at 4-2 before Rybakina fought back. But the Filipina remained composed and closed out the match 6-4 after 1 hour and 32 minutes.

Quarterfinal Berth

With this victory, Eala advanced to the quarterfinals of the tournament, where she will face Elina Svitolina.

This marks the second time Eala has defeated a World No. 2 player. Last year, she also scored a major upset against Iga Swiatek at the Miami Open, which propelled her to the semifinals.
