SRP Accident Families Won't File Case Against Driver

The families of two individuals who died in an accident along the South Road Properties (SRP) in Cebu City will not file a case against the driver of the vehicle that struck the victims last Saturday, June 13, 2026.

This was revealed by Venus Navares, wife of motorcycle driver Bernel Navares, 45, who died instantly, and the mother of 22-year-old passenger Krystal Claire Mondares, who was declared dead on arrival at the hospital, during an interview with SunStar SuperBalita Cebu.

It was recalled that the motorcycle driven by Navares suddenly made a U-turn and allegedly swerved into the opposite lane, causing it to be hit by an oncoming Ford Raptor driven by John Tabacon, 23, who was reportedly speeding at the time.

It was learned that Mondares was a regular passenger of the habal-habal driver Navares, who was supposed to take her to her workplace at a large establishment near the accident site.

According to the families of the victims, they have settled with the Raptor driver after he promised to cover all hospital expenses until the burial.

"It's very painful because it happened suddenly, ma'am, I still can't accept it. But there's nothing we can do. I just want my husband to be properly laid to rest," said Navares' wife.

Navares' body is currently lying in state at the chapel in Sitio Panagdait, Barangay Basak San Nicolas, and is expected to be buried on Sunday, June 21.

Meanwhile, Mondares' body is also lying in state at the chapel in Sitio Kawayan, Barangay Poblacion Pardo, and is scheduled to be brought to her final resting place on Monday, June 22.
