The Department of Health (DOH) has officially designated the Jose B. Lingad Memorial General Hospital (JBLMGH) as a Specialty Center for Infectious Diseases, marking a significant step in strengthening the country's healthcare infrastructure. This designation makes JBLMGH the 16th specialty center established by the DOH across the nation.
Role and Capabilities
The newly designated center is intended to serve as a referral hub for the detection, diagnosis, and management of infectious diseases. During the pandemic, the hospital previously operated as a COVID-19 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) Laboratory and Pandemic Subnational Reference Laboratory, playing a crucial role in the national response.
Advanced Testing and Analysis
JBLMGH has been developed into the Central Luzon Infectious Disease Referral Laboratory, equipped with capabilities for advanced testing and analysis of various infectious diseases. This upgrade ensures that the facility can handle complex cases and contribute to regional health security.
Part of 8-Point Action Agenda
The DOH stated that the designation is part of its 8-Point Action Agenda, which aims to bolster the country's preparedness and response to pandemics and other public health emergencies. This initiative underscores the government's commitment to enhancing healthcare resilience.
Zero Balance Billing Policy
The DOH also assured that patients admitted to the facility will continue to be covered under the government’s Zero Balance Billing policy, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder access to quality healthcare services.
