The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will begin its investigation into the deaths of two Ateneo basketball players, Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili, who drowned during a team building activity in Dipaculao, Aurora. The agency has formed a task force to focus on the incident.
Task Force Formed
NBI Director Atty. Melvin Matibag stated that they are coordinating with the victims' families, local police, and the entire Ateneo basketball team for the investigation. The agency aims to examine all angles of the tragedy and determine who is responsible for the deaths of the two young players.
Public Demand for Answers
The NBI's involvement follows growing public calls to identify the true cause of the deaths. Currently, the local police, the Commission on Higher Education, and the NBI are conducting investigations and fact-finding. The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) has also formed a multi-stakeholder committee to ensure comprehensive accountability of those involved.
