The family of the late Nigerian basketball player Divine Adili has requested that an autopsy be conducted on his remains before they are repatriated to Nigeria, according to a statement from the Nigerian Embassy in Manila.
Autopsy Request
The embassy stated that Adili's family wants a thorough examination to determine the cause of his death before his body is brought back to Nigeria. Adili, 21, died alongside his teammate Rene Baterbonia, 19, after they drowned during a team-building activity in the waters of Dipaculao, Aurora on Monday.
Background
Adili was expected to be one of the rookie big men for the Ateneo Blue Eagles in the past UAAP season.
Investigation
Meanwhile, the Department of Justice has tasked the National Bureau of Investigation with conducting a thorough investigation to determine if there are sufficient grounds to file charges related to the incident. According to the DOJ, the NBI has formed a task force to carry out a comprehensive and impartial inquiry.
Currently, police investigators in Aurora have stated that they have not found any signs of foul play, based on affidavits from the lifeguard and first responders who assisted the victims.
