Ateneo Accepts Baldwin, Quimpo Resignations After Deaths

Ateneo de Manila University has accepted the resignations of men's basketball head coach Tab Baldwin and team manager Epok Quimpo, both embroiled in controversy after the deaths of two Blue Eagles players during a training camp in Aurora.

University President Fr. Roberto C. Yap, SJ, announced the resignations in a press conference.

"I also must inform everyone that the University has accepted the resignation of Head Coach Thomas Anthony 'Tab' Baldwin effective immediately," Yap said, as reported by Spin.ph. "We thank him for the years of service to the Blue Eagles, but as we enter a period of deep institutional review, a change in leadership is necessary to ensure the full integrity of our sports programs and safety protocols."

Baldwin was the first to tender his resignation, followed by Quimpo.

Under Baldwin's guidance, the Blue Eagles won four championships in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP).

Earlier, the Blue Eagles had already withdrawn from participation in the FilOil EcoOil Preseason Cup. As for the UAAP, Yap clarified that no decision has been made yet regarding their withdrawal from the league.
